Job interview

I've got an interview Friday for a part time appointment setting position. Hopefully they'll be super flexible about hours so that I won't have to pay for child care. Cool thing is that it is less than a mile from my house so I could easily walk every day I work. If you see this before Friday if you would pray that it goes smoothly and that God would just make it clear whether I'm supposed to be there, that'd be great. Thanks.

My Christmas Presents!

So, I'm working on memorizing the 8th chapter of Romans - not really sure why I didn't just start at the beginning and memorize the entire book, but we all know I'm a little...off. Anyway, Romans is being interspersed with the following books I got for Christmas: I'm more than a little entertained by the fact that both books were written by men named John and have the word "sin" in the title. I'm beginning to think I have a thing for the name John - I was already a fan of Piper, Edwards, and MacArthur and I think Owen is going to be added to the list as well.

Merry Christmas & a brief reflection

I doubt anyone will see this on Christmas, but either way I hope you had a lovely Christmas filled with the joy that is found in the knowledge that Christ has redeemed you with His precious blood. Now, on to a bit of business. I was driving to work yesterday and a car in front of me had bumper sticker similar to this: I don't have anything profound to say in response other than that I found it sad because Obama and Biden are just men. They burp, they are tempted, and yes they do sin - so I find it more than a little sad that Obama (or any other person for that matter) is being herald as the savior of our country. Will things improve under his leadership? I'm sure somethings will, but I'm also sure that other things will fail. Anyway, as I reflected on it Acts 4:12 came to mind and I did a couple quick designs for the CafePress store:

-6 today, woo

Today I woke up to ice being on the INSIDE of the front door on the window. I'm moving (back) to Florida.

The most beautiful words ever written

I purchased The Nativity Story on dvd through Amazon last week and it came yesterday, so I popped it in last night after the kids went to bed. There just aren't words for how much I love this movie. As I was watching it I was thinking about the anticipation of Christ's return and about a zillion other things when my brother interrupted my thoughts. It was the scene where Herod was transferring his sins to the bull and then it cuts out as the animal is about to be sacrificed and he asked what they were doing. I told him that they were sacrificing the animal and he replied that he didn't think God would approve of such behavior. Boy was he caught off guard when I informed him that the sacrifice of animals back then was not only approved but ordained by God, and that sin requires death...I thought his response to the news was more profound than he probably realized at the time, "I have too many sins for that to work, I have to many sins in my life." I was caught

Cinnamon Rolls

Alton Brown is my favorite male Food Network star because he is a bit nerdy (female award goes to either Giada or Rachel - I can't decide) and this morning after I spent an hour and 15 minutes hitting refresh on my school email account and the school website (at 5am the kids' schools called to tell me school was canceled due to the ice storm, eventually my school decided to cancel finals as well) I went in search of a cinnamon roll recipe. This one will certainly do. Dough: 4 large egg yolks, room temperature 1 large whole egg, room temperature 2 ounces sugar, approximately 1/4 cup 3 ounces unsalted butter, melted, approximately 6 tablespoons 6 ounces buttermilk, room temperature 20 ounces all-purpose flour, approximately 4 cups, plus additional for dusting 1 package instant dry yeast, approximately 2 1/4 teaspoons 1 1/4 teaspoons kosher salt Vegetable oil or cooking spray Filling: 8 ounces light brown sugar, approximately 1 cup packed 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon Pinch sa

My Vegan Chocolate Cake Experiment

As promised, here is the recipe I ended up making. The texture wasn't great, I ended up not being able to flip the cake onto a cookie sheet so I could decorate it properly, I'm not sure why. It still tasted pretty good, it was nice and moist - I was just disappointed that it wasn't going to stay together very well but that has to do with the fact that this recipe also doesn't have eggs in it. No milk, no eggs - and it is still considered a cake! I'd say 3.5 out of 5 stars. Anyway, I might try this in cupcake form next time. Here is the link to this recipe and more - I think the Applesauce Spice Cake sounds really interesting. 1-1/2 cup flour 1/3 cup cocoa powder 1 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp salt 1 cup sugar 1/2 cup vegetable oil 1 cup cold water (or ice coffee) 2 tsp vanilla extract 2 tsp vinegar Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Use a small brownie-size pan (no greasing required). Mix all the dry ingredients right in pan. Mix all the wet ingredients in separate bowl

Saturday = Party Day

Julianne turned four yesterday, because my house is small (read TINY) I decided to split the party into two groups: kiddies and family. The kiddies are coming for lunch and cake tomorrow and family is coming for dinner and cake in the evening. Busy day. So, I decided to simplify my life I'd cheat and use the box mixes for her cake. I just put the first one in the oven and happened to be looking at the box and noticed it said something about milk products. This is a problem because one of the kids coming can't have milk. No problem, I'll just use that cake for the family. The problem I'm running into is that when I do a search for cake recipes without milk products in it vegan recipes come up. Now, I'm all for experimenting, but I really want these kids to actually like the cake and I don't have time to test it before hand. The recipe I'm leaning towards sounds good enough, so I'm hoping it goes over well. I'll post the recipe tomorrow night with my t
